Our June Scholarships Awards Ceremony for our 2025 intake was attended by proud whānau, students and their generous Sponsors. It is wonderful to be able to celebrate their scholarship achievement with them in person. We have met many of you, and we love introducing you to your sponsors. We and our sponsors are always delighted to read the letters that arrive all through the year, describing what a difference a scholarship makes!

Congratulations to all who received Awards in 2025. We very much hope that some of you who are continuing your study, will apply again for 2026.

If you are thinking of applying, take some time to check the application criteria below, and if it sounds like you, then go ahead and apply!

Whitireia Foundation scholarships are open to domestic students planning to study full-time at Whitireia WelTec’s Porirua, Petone and Wellington campuses.

Our scholarships provide financial assistance for tuition fees, unless otherwise specified. Some scholarships cover tools and other relevant materials, such as laptops and software.

In addition to a financial (or equivalent) award, some students may have paid work experience opportunities.

Please check out the documents below if you are considering making an application for our 2026 scholarships.

Take a look at our Do’s and Don’ts Guide to help you in making your application.

  1. Hi there ,

I was wondering if you could give me more information in regards to available scholarships. I am looking to studying at Whitireia in degree in ECE in 2015.

    Kind regards
    Avasa

    1. Hi Avasa,
Good to hear you’re keen to do ECE at Whitireia in 2015. You can find out about the Foundation’s scholarships by going to the page ‘apply for a scholarship’ – make sure you check out the ‘do’s and don’ts’ page for tips on applying. There are other scholarship providers you may want to check out too – you can access these on Breakout or Fundview through the Funding Information Service http://www.fis.org.nz/ (free on the computers at Porirua library). We’ll be putting the 2015 application form on whitireiafoundation.com in July/August, with applications closing mid-October 2014. For more information, call Whitireia 0800 944 847, email scholarships@whitireia.ac.nz or go to the Whitireia website http://www.whitireia.ac.nz/student_services/Pages/Scholarships/
Best of luck with your scholarship and your studies 🙂
      Robyn

  2. Hello Robyn,

I am a second year BN mainstream student interested in applying for a scholarship for my last year of study next year. I am slightly green to what the process is, so this has stopped me from applying sooner.
I understand no scholarships are available right now but will be put up in July/August? Also are there any other scholarship providers for nursing degrees that you know of?

Thank you very much for your time.

    Michelle White

    1. Hi Michelle,
Good to hear of your interest in scholarships.
Yes, we will be seeking applications for 2015 in August September and I strongly recommend you apply, if you meet the criteria we set out on our Apply for a scholarship page. I suggest you also check out the page Do’s and don’ts for hints on what we look for. On other scholarships, you can go to the library and log into either Breakout or Fundview, put in some search criteria and you should come up with a few to apply for. If you are already studying at Whitireia, then you have one of our criteria sorted – so give it a go 🙂 Look out for the 2015 application coming soon. If you sign up with your email on this site, you’ll get a notification when applications are out. Good luck with your third year, and I wish you success in gaining a scholarship. Cheers, Robyn

    1. Hi Vanessa,
Yes, September 1st. The 2015 application form will be on the website then. If you want to get a head start on what to put in your application, take a look at the 2014 Application Guide on this page ‘Apply for a scholarship’ and check out ‘Your scholarship application – do’s and don’ts’. The Whitireia Prospectus 2015 will be out at the same time. Thanks for your question. Cheers, Robyn

    1. Kia ora Monika, Thanks for your question. Our scholarships are typically for full-year study, and I understand that Photography level 4 and 5 are half-year, so wouldn’t be course we cover unfortunately – I will do some further checking and if there are any possibilities, I’ll get straight back to you. If photography really grabs your interest, I’d encourage you to apply for a scholarship in Whitireia’s Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Arts and Design), when you graduate from the Photo School. If you complete both practical (level4) and advanced (level5) photography, you can jump straight into year two of Applied Visual Arts and Design.

  3. I was wondering if you could give me more information about Secondary students applying for a scholarship. I’ll be finishing secondary school this year and I’m looking to do a Bachelor of Applied Business. Thanks

    1. Kia ora Allie, your message went astray and I have just discovered it – apologies! You still have time to complete an application to the Foundation (see the website for the Application Guide and some Do’s and Don’ts) if you’re keen to enrol in Whitireia’s Applied Business course for 2016. It would be a good idea to ring Information and Enrolment on 0800 944 847, or jump on http://www.whtireia.ac.nz so you can find out about the range of scholarships available to school leavers – there are are quite a few. Whitireia Foundation scholarships are for all ages and we have a new one specifically for the Bachelor of Applied Business. All the best for your scholarship application 🙂

  4. Hey I would like to knw how to apply scholarship ,I would like to start health science foundation from nxt year

    1. Kia ora Sabinaz, Yes, if you are a domestic student you can apply for a scholarship to study Health Science at Whitireia. You’ll need to be quick if you are to get in an application for study next year – the cut off date is the end of October. I’d suggest you apply, even if you are a few days late – you might want to add a note that you were waiting for information from me via the website. All the details are on the website. Check out the Application Guide first, then take a look at the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ before you fill in your application form. Good Luck!

    1. Kia ora Kataraina, Scholarships for 2019 have closed and recipients have been selected. Our next round is for 2020, opening in Sept/Oct 2019. Occasionally, additional scholarships come up mid year. In that case, we would announce them on this site and through the scholarships page on whitireia.ac.nz.

    1. Hi Becs, Yes, absolutely! We’re aiming to have our application form online once we finalise a few more Scholarship Sponsors, likely to be mid-December – we’ve extended the due date for 2025 applications out to March 🙂 It’s looking good for Whitireia Foundation Student Scholarships in 2025, with more sponsors than 2024, and increases to some of the awards. Thanks for your interest….and good luck!

PS Check out the ‘Do’s and Don’ts page when you get started on your application.
