About us

The Whitireia Foundation is a registered charitable trust, established in 1999, and responsible for managing and growing its scholarship fund, which has reached upwards of $600,000.

Our mission is to expand educational opportunities for all.

If you’re thinking about studying at a Whitireia campus and are prepared to put the effort in, check out these pages, as we might be able to help with your tuition fees or the materials you need for study.

Awards range from $1000 to $5000. In 2022 and 2023, the Foundation awarded more than 40 scholarships, an increase on the 2021 total. We hope to award a similar quantity in 2024, for which we gratefully acknowledge the support of our generous sponsors.

A bequest from the estate of Geraldine Lyndhurst boosted our capital significantly in 2022, for which we are deeply grateful. Many students and their families will benefit from Geraldine’s incredible generosity for years to come.

Helping a promising Whitireia student, as a valued scholarship provider, is a life-changing experience. If you’d consider sponsoring a student, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with one of the Foundation’s trustees, or email – scholarships@whitireia.ac.nz

    1. Hi Marie,
Thanks for getting in touch – yes you should seriously consider making an application if you meet our main criteria of limited means, enthusiasm and commitment to succeed – also you need to be a NZ citizen or have held permanent residency for 2 years – for all the details, take a look at the pages: ‘Apply for a scholarship’ and ‘Your scholarship application- do’s and don’ts’. 1. Hi Rebecca – if you are enrolling in Whitireia’s Bachelor of Teaching – Early Childhood Education (see the 2015 prospectus on this website) then you are welcome to apply for a Whitireia Foundation Scholarship, subject to some criteria outlined in the Application Guide. Check out the page Applying for a scholarship for a link to the Guide and an Application form. There’s also a page on the Do’s and don’ts of making an application to read before you get started. Applications close October 31 2014. Good luck 🙂

  3. Hello Robyn Moore,
I recently attended an education fair held by New Zealand embassy in India where I spoke with representative from Whitireia.
I am interested in getting admitted for Masters in Information Technology hence, I want to know if there are scholarships available for international students in regards to masters level course.

    1. Thanks for getting in touch Sumeet, Please accept my apologies if you have not yet received a response to your query. Scholarships through the Whitireia Foundation are for residents of New Zealand, so if you have ‘residency’ in this country, I encourage you to apply Sumeet. If, on the other hand, you are an international student, I would recommend you contact the Whitireia Master’s programme you are interested in, to find out what scholarships might be on offer to international students. There is a fantastic support team for international students – more details are on Whitireia’s International home page http://www.whitireia.ac.nz/international/Pages/HomePage.aspx
      Email – international@whitireia.ac.nz
